TCN joins civil society organizations calling to support America’s Iraqi and Syrian allies

On September 3, The Chamberlain Network signed on to a joint statement led by No One Left Behind alongside 20 other civil society organizations to express concern about local national allies in Iraq and Syria in the event of a reduction of troops or withdrawal. The letter emphasizes the need for a comprehensive plan to address the risks of Iraqi, Syrian, and other local nationals who served the U.S. mission in the event of a troop reduction of withdrawal.

“The dangers faced by local nationals who worked by or on behalf of America are clear. The risk of reprisal has been continuous throughout the U.S. missions in Iraq and Syria, and as Afghanistan demonstrated, it will remain following a U.S. withdrawal. Protecting those who have
risked their lives alongside American troops and diplomats is both a moral necessity and a national security imperative” the statement reads.

We can’t support democracy at home if we’re not willing to stand up for our allies overseas. Protecting the human rights of those that support the U.S. mission is fundamental to The Chamberlain Network and the veteran community we bring together.
